Join us as we raise a glass to toast the Gangway, the oldest gay bar in San Francisco.
The Gangway is a relic of a bygone era when the Tenderloin was the center of queer life in San Francisco. The Gangway has operated as a bar since 1910 and a gay bar since 1961. Predating the LGBT movement in the United States, it truly is an artifact from a different time in history. Now it's one of two gay bars left in the neighborhood and may soon close. Join us at the museum at 6:30pm for refreshments, and to commiserate about the history of the Gangway. At 7:15 we'll walk over to the Gangway and raise a glass to a fabulous & historic San Francisco institution, that may not be here too much longer.
