Description of workshop:

In Art With Elder’s free Community Empowerment Art Workshop with artist Hugh Leeman, will focus on the process of creating rather than the product created.

Materials we will use: Paintbrushes, acrylic paint, water cup to put paintbrushes in, and thick paper such as watercolor paper or cardstock – we will make acrylic paintings on this paper. The art materials will be provided, and all participants will take the art they make during the workshop with them at the end of the evening.

Together, we will paint landscapes using a white-on-black technique which will teach us repetition, tone, contrasts, and the profundity of light in creating a composition. During this process, we will explore wet into wet techniques, the beauty of not thoroughly mixing paint to achieve purposefully inconsistent outcomes, and the idea behind layering. Ultimately this workshop will embrace the beauty of experimentation to share our stories through the visual language and rich symbolism of art.
