Bay Area architectural legend Frederick H. Meyer realized several of his distinctive, Beaux-Arts inspired buildings in and around the Tenderloin. Seasoned walking tour guide, historian, and emeritus city planning professor Linda Day will highlight 10 Meyer-designed structures, including the old YMCA & the Cadillac Hotel.

Frederick Herman Meyer was born on Telegraph Hill, San Francisco in 1876; his father was a German immigrant and cabinet maker. As a successful self-taught architect with no formal schooling competing with Paris Ecole des Beaux Arts trained architects, Meyer earned prestigious commissions such as for Market Street's Humboldt Bank Building and Monadnock Building and many Tenderloin buildings. Meyer designed the San Francisco Landmarked Cadillac Hotel, the National Register of Historic Places listed YMCA Hotel at 351 Turk Street, and several other elegant hotel and apartment buildings that we will see on our walk.

Please note that there is a hill climb from our starting place at the Cadillac Hotel up to Bush Street. We will walk by the buildings and enter lobbies where possible. Tour will convene at TLM for a 2pm departure!
