Invasion of the Body Snatchers: On Location in the Tenderloin

Join the Tenderloin Museum for Invasion of the Body Snatchers on Oct 20th, and Snatchers Body the of Invasion on November 3rd. The first is the classic film from 1978, and the second is that film meticulously edited shot-by-shot in reverse order by artist Anne McGuire. See the original first, and then come back for a more hopeful version where soul-less clones are gradually replaced by humans. Anne McGuire in person on November 3rd!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the seminal SF Science Fiction film. Shot on location around the city, (including key scenes in the Tenderloin) the film beautifully captures 1978 San Francisco. 7x7 has described the film as, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 1978 version) is perhaps the quintessential San Francisco movie.”

Snatchers Body the of Invasion is a mesmerizing work of art by artist Anne McGuire. From Anne- “This is the fourth in my series of reverse-order films, in which I re-edit a film from end to beginning, cut by cut (the action remains forward moving). Subjected to my reverse-edit technique, the films take on new meaning and invite the viewer to reassess narrative and the meaning of the edit, as the new story unfolds. The tagline for the original film The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Phillip Kaufman, 1978) is: In San Francisco, a group of people discover the human race is being replaced one by one, with clones devoid of emotion. For my version of the film, the tagline reads: In San Francisco, a group of clones, devoid of emotion are slowly being replaced one by one, by humans. My film is meant to be a meditation, a magic spell, and, it’s fun to watch. The series also includes: STRAIN ANDROMEDA, THE (1993), ADVENTURE POSEIDON, THE (2006), and, INFERNO TOWERING, THE (2011).”

Both Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Snatchers Body the of Invasion star Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum.
