Sunday Streets returns to the Tenderloin on Sunday, April 10th, and the Tenderloin Museum is celebrating with a second line processional along the route with live music by MJ’s Brass Boppers, a nine-piece brass band with the authentic New Orleans sound and roots in the TL. Join us and the whole neighborhood for a funky stroll through the TL! All are welcome and encouraged to march along with the band, dance, and sing along; music starts at 12pm on the corner of Ellis and Leavenworth, and the band will process along the Sunday Streets route along Ellis, Larkin, and will conclude at Golden Gate and Leavenworth at 2pm.
Since 2008, MJ’s Brass Boppers have been cultivating a high energy repertoire that offers a taste of authentic New Orleans style with a West Coast flair, mixing funk, jazz, and pop with a second line rhythm and twist. This swinging and singing brass-line has performed together at a host of festivals, community events, nightclubs, and street corners around the Bay Area and beyond, and have opened for such musical luminaries as George Clinton & Funkadelic, The O'Jays, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave, Funky Meters, George Porter Jr., Kermit Ruffins, and many more. Sunday Streets is a program of the nonprofit Livable City presented in partnership with the SFMTA, San Francisco Department of Public Health, and the City and County of San Francisco. The San Francisco open streets program features an annual season of events that reclaim car-congested streets for community health, transforming them into car-free spaces for all to enjoy. Event routes are 1-4 miles in length, with fun, free activities provided by local nonprofits, community groups and small businesses.
